Word of the day.... plebeian....

plebeian [pleb-ee-an] adj. 1. of the lower social classes. 2. vulgar or rough -n. 3. (also (offens.) pleb) member of the lower social classes.

See also.... It's official.... I am a cretin!

So, by my reckoning, that makes me either.... a plebeian cretin..... or a cretinous pleb!.... I don't suppose it makes much difference.... but I prefer the latter!

  2. wow. great video even without sound. i think you have brass balls to do all this and to plod on to stay alive. you are Hypo Hero as far as I can tell. i have no thyroid for nearly 14 years due to cancer and total removal; nice NYC surgeon, no stitches used surgical glue so i have no scar, that was the best part of the deal. then 10 days later they said i was going to die, as 1% do die due to replacement Rx not working. great, marvelous, i had 3 months to figure out how to stay alive. sometimes i wish i hadn't but i did. it's a lonely road even with all the web support. then thanks to no thyroid i developed diabetes type 1.5. that's even a worse life plus the hypo.
so go for it dude, keep on truckin', bloggin', sharing, and breathing in and out! Now I got an Hero to follow.

  4. Hi, I've just read your entire blog and am so glad I found it. I do so hope you get the correct treatment very soon; I find your blog so readable, interesting and worthwhile, thanks. It's good too, to hear a man's take on all of this.

I can empathise with your search and struggles for it (from my medical history, my Dr says it's clear I've had hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's all my life (I'm now 60!) but it was only diagnosed 12 months ago..! so I too am messing around with the meds and through the great help from forums etc. now know more about hypot than the Dr does (she says)).

6 weeks ago she asked if I wanted to see an endo but I said could I try T3 first (as I know most endos are worse than useless!) She agreed! I think having the article with me about this really helped as it showed Dr Toft's view and I think Drs accept his views more than most; see:

    http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=4126143

    - see especially Point 6 - "The dose of levothyroxine should be reduced by 50µg daily and tri iodothyronine in a dose of 10µg (half a tablet) daily added." [sorry if you have this already]

I hope you get to try T3 as I have found it really helps (before starting it I was on 125mg T4; dropped to 75mg T4 + 10mg T3 (T3 in 2 doses); no effect so upped T3 to 15mg; got more and more hypo so upped T4 to 100 and then upped T3 to 20mg. I'm much better on this and, although not right yet, I do feel this is the path to pursue for me so I hope you get a chance to (NB. it is not true that only endos can prescribe T3!!)

Good luck and I look forward to reading more.

  5. Hello, Hypo-man!

Your video on this cold, winter morning brightened my day and made me smile. I'm so glad there are others out there like me that struggle everyday to be and look "normal". You have the sweetest face! Keep making us smile...we need it!

  6. Hi HypoMan - Found out about your blog via Mary Shoman's site. Through the video and your writings, you come across as a sensitive person who has a wry sense of humour - very refreshing! I'm happy that you are taking Vitamin D3 - it made a huge difference to me (also hypo). I'm taking 5,000 IU of Carlson's Vitamin D but will taper down to 3,000 IU when we have more sunshine and warmth (it's cold here in Canada). Best of luck to you - 2011 will be the first of many happy years for you! Cheers from Calgary

  7. Hi HypoMan

I have read your entire blog in the last few days and now look forward to each new entry.

I was diagnosed 7 years ago, but since I save all of my lab reports, it is evident that I actually was hypo for at least 10 years prior. Only when the TSH values were lowered ( to indicate hypothyroidism ) by the powers who make these kinds of determination, did I all of a sudden have hypothyroidism, though I knew something was wrong all of those other years.

I have had two endoectomies and am probably going to undergo a third. For those who may not be familiar with this procedure, an endoectomy is when you get rid of your current endocrinologist. Finding an endo who thinks outside of the TSH and synthetic meds may be impossible.

Keep writing and fighting to feel better. I must tell you that you have the sweetest smile ever.
